The Secret to unlocking Poverty in the minds of Children....

Fort Worth HOPE Center helps families who live in poverty have dreams of helping others.

Poverty's control over people starts in the mind. What they think controls their lives. So it is especially important to have an opportunity to speak into the lives of children that poverty doesn't have to be their way of life, they can walk out of it by changing what they "think" and by realizing they can help others.

So you say, how can you help a parent stuck in poverty help their child "think" they can help others? Our Thoughts are controlled by our "heart"...out of the abundance of the "heart" the mouth speaks. Once your mouth starts speaking poverty, lack and defeat...all of this comes into the family. But once our mouths speak about dreams and goals and desires to help other...this begins to shape a child's thinking to think of others needs more then his/hers.

"Faith is the substance of things HOPED for the EVIDENCE of things NOT Seen. What Kind of Substance is HOPE? What Kind of Evidence is Faith that you can't see? Is is seeing the needs in others lives and believing you can help them.

When a person come to KNOW that God cares for them and has them as the apple of HIS eye, they began to see life from a new perspective. When they realize that God asked us to come to him and seek him with our whole heart and that He rewards those who seek HIM, it begins to spark a flame of HOPE and Faith in the heart of a child. They feel they can help someone else.

When we seek Him we FIND Him....and when a person experiences God loving them, their poverty has to take the back seat and their faith began to stand up....and become can be seen because there is LIFE manifesting in their hearts in the middle of a mess when a person KNOWS that God's got his eye on them and He will make a way for them out of this poverty.

God loves to be "light" in the darkness. He loves to provide miracles for those looking for one. So to answer the question "What is the secret of unlocking poverty in a child?" I say it is experiencing God's love for them. Once a child has experienced genuine love, they are never the same. They know it is real, that it has LIFE in it, and there is HOPE. So a child can feel safe when they experience God's love. How does he/she experience it? Through people!

Where do they find God's LOVE? In the hearts of those who love HIM. That is why it is so important to do what Jesus ask us to do in the last sermon he preached before he was crucified. In Matt. 25:35-40.

"35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’

40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters,[c] you were doing it to me!"

In Matt. 25:35-40 says that as PEOPLE love those in poverty...they are actually loving the Lord. They feel His presence as they LOVE Him and it is life changing. To know you are loved by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, gives a person a peace and assurance that God's got your back and He is going to get you out of poverty. He gives them a "dream", a "desire" and with that comes the Thrill of FAITH to do their dream and desire....and God rolls up His sleeve and miraculously opens doors to bless the poor through those who are LOVING them because they LOVE the Lord.

I can remember when I was a kid...I lived in poverty way out of town on a little Tennessee farm that was completely"self contained. By this I mean the only thing that daddy bought from the grocery store was salt, flour, corn meal and baking powder/soda and sugar. (Only the staples) We didn't have an in-door toilet or bath, nor did we have store bought "anything"...not even "store bought" food until I left home and went to college. How could I ever go to college living in such poverty? God loved me through people who gave me "dreams".

I met a missionary when I was 12 years old that changed my life and caused me to desire to help others in a greater need than I was in. As a young kid I wanted to help kids who lived in poverty in Africa. I had a dream of helping others. This dream helped me to realize I wasn't limited to my circumstances and helped me to expect doors to open for me to go to college and someday be able to help the poor.

As a senior in high school my science project won a science fair, and as a result II won a small scholarship that opened the door for me to "dream" about going to college. As i searched out where I could use this scholarship, other scholarships began to be added to it and before I knew it I had been accepted to attend Union University. The rest is history, with a college degree, and later a Seminary Degree I met a wonderful man who had a missions heart and we married and have spent over 50 years serving the helping the poor.

How could that be? My husband and I eventually opened the Fort Worth HOPE Center a place in the middle of impoverished communities in Fort Worth, TX A place to fulfill the dream God put in my heart as a 12 year old love people in poverty them and give them an awareness that God loves them and will give them dreams and help them fulfill their dreams as they trust Him.

When I was 62 years old, I was even ordained as an African Minister in Nigeria, ...50 years after the missionary came to our church when I was 12 and I gave my heart to serve the poor.

His love is so powerful and children can experience it. I experienced it and it changed my life...and he is NO respecter of persons. His love is so life changing, He gives us the faith to DREAM....and Faith grow in our hearts. He gives you HIS Faith to trust Him and the HIS Faith to believe Him that He can use our lives to help others.

So what changes a child in poverty??'s an awareness that God LOVES them and that they can help other in need too. It is Thrill of Faith that God makes a way for him/her to do it.

This is a picture of me, JoAnn, as we are going out into the impoverished communities to hand out food to families in need.

The Orlando and I are the Founders of the Fort Worth HOPE Center that provides nutritious food every week that is loaded poor families cars who are in need of food. Volunteers come to help us bless families in need.

It all started when I was a 12 year old child living in poverty myself, but had a dream to help others.
